One home page for articles, audio, video and live radio.
In 2019 we designed Kancha, a Nepali media site, to carry five kinds of content, then built its front end on WordPress.
A media site from Nepal
Kancha was planned as a Nepali content site: articles, audio, podcasts, video and live FM radio from stations such as Radio Kantipur, with favourites, accounts and a weekly newsletter.
What the site needed
One home page that showed five kinds of content without becoming a list, and cards that told a reader, before they clicked, whether they would read, listen or watch.
What we did
We drew two concepts, designed the chosen one with the client's notes, and built its front end on WordPress. A development team took on the remaining features from August 2019.

The dates come from the project's task lists. The pictures are the designs, which use placeholder stories.
Five kinds of content, one site
Kancha's brief asked for articles, audio, podcasts, video and live FM radio in one place, with favourites, accounts, a weekly newsletter and sponsored slots. Each kind of content needed a card a reader could tell apart at a glance.
Two concepts, side by side
In January 2019 our designer drew two concepts: a dark one with red accents and a light one in white and red. Audio got a waveform card with its own play bar; video a red play button. The client chose the light concept.

The client's notes in February asked for larger section labels, rounded boxes on a darker canvas, and bigger text. They also asked for a thin audio player under the menu that keeps playing from page to page. The home page was approved a week later.
Built on WordPress
From February to July 2019 we built the front end on WordPress: the home page, favourites, the blog and article pages, video, search, audio, podcasts and the radio station pages. Podcasts come from Simplecast as data rather than an embedded player, so they take the site's own design. The last recorded work was client testing in March 2020. No launch is recorded.
