At present the web industry is in the real period of transition. The ways in which people require information, access information and devour information, is changing drastically. People from all over the world now use various devices to access websites to look up the information they want. In United States only, nearly half of all adults get local news on a cell phone or a tablet computer.

As technology matures, more and more intricate and cleverly crafted devices are being introduced. Each of these devices have their own unique shape, design and screen resolutions. Publishers across the globe have been trying to deal with this problem of designing websites that fits across all devices. But last year Ethan Marcottee (web designer/ developer /writer) suggested a possible solution to this problem in his article titled “Responsive Web Design”. Since the birth of this idea, it has created quite a strong wave of change in the web industry.

To help you understand about Responsive Web Design, we have listed some major questions and answers related to the topic.

As a website owner do I need to know about “Responsive Web Design”?

We’ll let you find out the answer to this question on your own as you go deeper into this article.
So, What is responsive web design ?

Responsive Web Design is the approach of designing and developing websites that respond to the user’s behavior and environment based on screen size, platform and orientation. This approach involves mixing of flexible grids and layouts, images and an apt use of CSS media queries. When users switch from their laptops to their iPad tablets, a website should automatically switch to accommodate for resolution, image size and scripting abilities. In other words, the website should have the technology to automatically respond to the user’s preferences. This would eliminate the need for a different design and development phase for each new gadget on the market.

In simpler words a responsive website is that “single” website which can be viewed in different devices with different screen resolutions to better meet the need of the user. Instead of fragmenting the content of the website across different devices, using responsive web design we can deploy one design across many different points in a much more responsive fashion in order to add adaptability and create designs than can actually adapt and respond to the devices that are rendering them.

How do I check if my website is responsive?

Below are screen shots of our site on different devices and different screen resolutions which are responsive.

Now, as you can see from above, browsing our sites in desktops, tablet phones and other mobile devices will serve the same content across all screens. The only thing that changes is the format and structure of the content. This automatic adjustment of our website in accordance with various devices means that our website is responsive.

Is Responsive Web Design only about reshaping screen resolutions?

It is true that the Responsive Web Design approach basically involves adjusting screen resolutions across a variety of devices. However, making every bit of content of a large screen available in a smaller one could create a negative user experience. So, you should include only the important content of a website in it’s mobile version. Therefore, though responsive web design emphasises on screen adjustment across various devices it’s not completely about ‘reshaping’ and ‘resizing’ because when you’re designing responsively you would also have to generate more focused content and make the use of lists or rows instead of columns.

So , Did you find out the answer to the question previously asked in this article..( As a website owner do I need to know about “Responsive Web Design”?).

I hope you probably did. And, if you want your existing website to be converted into a responsively designed site or want to create a new one, we at Last Door Solutions are at your service.

Designing and building a website alone cannot guarantee its success. A well planned SEO campaign is what makes your websites popular with major search engines like Google, Bing and Yahoo. This article discusses the possible ways of elevating your page rank and increasing traffic to your site.

Keywords

Though Google has declared that it does not use the keyword meta tag in web ranking ,other search engines like Bing, Ask and Yahoo! do. So, just to be sure do an extensive keyword research and place relevant keywords in the keywords meta tag and be sure that the targeted page does have content related to those keywords.

Title and Description Tags

The title and description meta tags are also used by search engines as the text for search results snippets. A title and description of the page briefly describes the content within that page. So a suitable title and description for each of your pages helps your viewers to know if it is your website that they are looking for. Be sure that the content of the page is relevant to its title and description tag.

Content

A fresh and well written content attracts more visitors to your website, while giving search engines new content to feed on. So, writing fresh and relevant content with right keywords in the right places may attract search engines and higher traffic for your website.

Sitemap

A well designed sitemap ensures that your website pages are indexed by search engines. Therefore, creating and submitting a sitemap will definitely help your website rank better with search engines.

Linkbuilding

Linkbuilding, when used wisely can increase the visibility of your websites and improve your search engine position. However, practices like ‘link-farming’ could decrease the ranking of your websites. So, a dozen links to and from good websites would be better than links from a thousand websites.

Online marketing

Owning a website alone does not ensure the success of your website. Without a powerful online marketing strategy your website may not reach people who would otherwise have been your customers. A highly original content and an effective online marketing strategy is what helps your online business expand.
